Typhoid is one of the most common diseases among both children and adults. This is caused by a lack of hygiene. In the evening people bring their cows and pigs to safety under the pile-houses. But pile-houses have wooden floors. Between the boards of the floor air can easily pass. So the germs from the dung are brought into direct contact with the food of the people. Also insects and other animals are freely entering the houses. An efficient solution would be the construction of stables at a distance from the houses but wood is very expensive and most of the people don't have the money to pay for it. The fact that people are also used to drinking water from the ponds is another very important factor in the spread of typhoid.

In May 2007 550 children of the school in Boeng Nimol received a vaccination against typhus. We worked together with nurses and doctor Ratvuth from the hospital in Chuck. We bought the vaccinations at Roussel Cambodge (dealer of Sanofie Pasteur) in Phnom Penh. Next year we will vaccinate the children of another school.

Cost of 1 syringe = 7 dollar
With 7 dollar you can help protect 1 child against typhus for the next three years.
